Traveling Off Season

Choosing an off season destination can save you huge money. Most people make their travel arrangements in a hurry, but it’s often a better idea to wait for off-peak season. Not only will you save money, but you’ll be able to really enjoy the city or country you’re going to visit.

More people traveling than ever before. It can be difficult to enjoy a city when there are crowds and tour buses everywhere you go. Traveling off-peak let’s you have a more relaxing and fun-filled vacation. Also, the shops, restaurants, and main tourist areas can be thoroughly enjoyed at discount prices.

Hawaii

For example, it’s best to travel to Hawaii during May and June as well as September through mid-December. The Caribbean offers its best package deals from April through June, and September through November. If you’re looking for a destination that’s a bit more exotic, you can find great deals in Australia during the spring, or Fiji in December through February, or Thailand – a new hot spot – from March through September. Mexico, another favorite destination, offers its best deals in April and October.

Europe

For travel to Europe, the fall months are the best. You will find the best travel deals to Paris in January. And while it will be quite cold, February is a great month to visit Alaska to save on air and hotel packages.

One of the drawbacks, however, when traveling off season is that some hotels and museums may be closed. It’s a good idea to check with the local consulate or online site of the city or country you are visiting to find out what’s open and what’s not. I would recommend that you check the local weather as well.

Another great idea is to check the airlines. Even though most offer discounted rates throughout the year, they also offer special deals during off-peak seasons. Some of the prices may include hotel accommodations as well.

Eiffel Tower

Speaking of hotel accommodations, you may find that winter rates in Europe are low from November through January. Researching each country to find their hotel rates and information on local transportation is very important. While most of the buses in most cities are available during peak seasons, you may find their availability lessens during the off peak season. You will need to check with the tourist boards if you intend on using local transportation.

Traveling off season can give you the opportunity to visit places and experience local culture on a more personal level. It’s worth the time to investigate your travel destination in depth to make your overall trip more enjoyable.
