Family Vacation Resorts for Large FamiliesAre you looking for the best family vacation resorts for large families? Planning a family vacation and finding a resort that is ideal for large families can be tiresome and frustrating. Most hotels and resorts don’t allow more than four people in a room, so booking a family vacation for a larger family requires can be a real challenge.
The money can add up quickly when you have to reserve two or more rooms for your family PLUS pay for food, entertainment and travel expenses. It can look impossible! The good news is that it’s not.
When we have traveled with just infants and toddlers there is usually no problem. We just book a regular room with two queen beds. This easily provides enough room for 2 adults and up to 3 little kids. It's when they are a little older or you have a family that's grown to 6 or more young ones that the challenges start! My sister recently went to the Bahamas with her husband and three teens - two boys and one girl. You can just imagine the difficulties with that scenario. They really needed one bed for each teen! That plus the adults equaled a total of 4 beds. Just watch the expenses escalate with that scenario - unless you can find a hotel or resort that caters to large families. Often condo style hotels are perfect for this. If you can find a two or three bedroom condo with a sleeper sofa or roll away cots you can have space for a huge group! Two places we have recently been like this are Harborside Villas in Paradise Island in the Bahamas and Douglas Fir Resort in Banff Alberta Canada! Each of these resorts includes full kitchens, up to three bedrooms plus sleeping facilities in the livingroom. Many vacation destinations have family vacation resorts that cater to large families. It takes a bit of looking but I think your best bet is the condo style villa. Other alternatives for travel with a large family include hotels with locking doors between two or more adjacent regular rooms, and hotels that have larger suites such as the British Colonial Hilton in Nassau Bahamas.
Since there are only a limited number of family vacation resorts that can accommodate larger families, they are in high demand. Rooms can book up in a hurry during school vacations and holidays. It’s best to make your reservations far in advance to make sure you can book your first choice.
Some of the resorts are labeled EP (European Plan), which means that meals are not included in the price. Luckily, most of the resorts listed are All Inclusive, meaning that all meals, drinks and most entertainment is included in the price quoted. You won’t have to worry every time your kids ask for a drink or another snack because it’s already been paid for. That’s worth the price every time!
